How to allow staff to Request to work a Shift

The Request to work button is included by default on the standard Bookings view when an account is first set up. If you've since added other views, a Kanban board or a pipeline view for example, that button may not have carried over automatically, and you'll need to add it yourself.

Adding the Request to work button to a view

If a view is missing the button, here's how to add it.

  1. On the bookings view, click the three dot menu, next to the Add Booking button.

  2. Select Edit Row Layout.

  3. Scroll down to the Actions section in the bottom half of the screen.

  4. Hover over the Request to work button until the hand appears, click and hold, then drag it into the row layout, into the position you want it to sit.

  5. Save.

Once it's added, the button appears as part of the row for anyone looking at that Bookings view.

What staff need in order to see and use it

Two separate things need to be true, not just one.

Staff need permission to view the Bookings view itself. Without it, they can't reach the screen the button lives on, no matter how the row layout is set up.

The Request to work button then needs to actually be present on that view, which is what the steps above set up.

What happens when a member of staff requests a shift

Clicking Request to work adds their shift to that job, but it doesn't confirm anything outright. It goes in marked with a yellow row, showing it as requested rather than confirmed.

From there, only an admin with permission to manage shifts can act on it. They can confirm the request, turning it into a properly assigned shift, or deny it, which removes it.
