If you can’t send a proposal, or the customer says it never arrived, work through these checks in order. They start with the most common cause.

1. The proposal hasn’t been published

You can’t send a proposal until it’s published. If clicking Send does nothing, this is almost always why.

Open the proposal, click Publish, then open the drop-down at the top right and click Send.

2. The lead has no email address or phone number

Proposals are sent by email or SMS to the details on the lead. If the lead has no email address, an email can’t be sent. If it has no mobile number, an SMS can’t be sent.

Open the lead, add the missing contact details and save. Then send the proposal again.

3. The email address or phone number is wrong

A typo in the email address or a missing digit in the phone number means the proposal goes nowhere. Check the details on the lead against what the customer gave you, correct them and send again.

4. The email went to spam

The proposal may have arrived but landed in the customer’s spam or promotions folder. Ask them to check. If it’s there, ask them to mark it as not spam, which helps future emails arrive.

Sending by SMS instead gets around this completely.

5. Your emails aren’t sending at all

If none of your emails are arriving, not just proposals, the problem is with your email setup rather than the proposal. Check the email delivery troubleshooting article, which covers connected email accounts and sending domains.

6. Your New Proposal email template has a problem

Proposal emails use your default New Proposal email template. If that template has been deleted or emptied, the email may not go out properly. Open your email templates and check it’s there and contains the proposal link.

7. You don’t have permission to send

Permissions to view, edit and delete proposals are set in user and team settings. If you can see the proposal but can’t do anything with it, ask the account owner to check your permissions.

Still stuck

Copy the proposal’s link from the builder and send it to the customer yourself by email or message. They can open and accept it from that link the same as from a sent proposal. Then contact support with the lead’s name and what you’ve tried.
