Your proposal is often the first proper look a customer gets at your business, so it should look like your brand rather than the software’s. Most of the branding happens in Global Styling, which applies to the whole proposal at once. You only need to set it once, on the template.
Start with the palette
Open Global Styling and set your colour palette: one primary colour and up to five secondary colours. These colours appear at the top of every colour picker in the builder.
Use palette colours wherever you can instead of picking colours by hand. If you later change your primary colour, every heading, button and background that uses it changes too. If you picked colours by hand, you’d have to click through every element to change them.
A simple palette that works for most brands:
primary: your main brand colour, used for buttons and highlights
a dark colour for headings
a softer colour for body text
a light background colour
an accent colour for small details
Set your fonts before you build
In Global Styling, set the default font for each text style, such as headings and paragraphs. You can add any font from the Google Fonts library or upload your own font files.
Set your fonts before you start building. Changing them at the end can push text onto extra lines and upset a layout you’ve already finished.
Two fonts are usually enough: one for headings and one for body text.
Layout and background
Also in Global Styling:
Layout: full width suits pages with big photos, and boxed suits pages that are mostly text. You can also set the container width.
Background: a colour or an image. For an image, you can set its size, repeat and position, and fix it in place for a parallax effect when the customer scrolls. Keep background images subtle so text stays easy to read.
Logo and photos
Add your logo near the top of the page. Then replace the template’s photos with your own work. Real photos from your events do more to win bookings than anything else on the page.
If a photo sits behind text, add a dark overlay to the block so the text stays readable. An overlay between 50% and 60% works on most busy photos.
Check it on a phone
Most customers open proposals on their phone. Use the preview to check that:
headings aren’t too long for a small screen
columns stack in a sensible order
buttons are easy to tap
the quote isn’t buried at the bottom
Starting from a template
If you’re starting from the BoothBook template library, you only need to change the palette, fonts and photos. The layout, copy, variables, quote and accept button are already there. Changing the primary colour alone gets you most of the way.
